    CURRICULUM VITAE
Wiesje M. van der Flier (1975) studied neuropsychology at the Universiteit Utrecht (graduation: 1999). The subject of her thesis was “MRI correlates of cognitive decline”(Leiden University Medical Center, date of defence: 2004). She started her post doc position in the Alzheimer center VUmc in 2004. She holds a part time position as universitair docent at the department of epidemiology and biostatistics since 2008. In 2008 she took the position of Head Research of the Alzheimer center (universitair docent). This means coordination of clinical research and supervision of the PhD students of the Alzheimer center VUmc.
    CURRENT PROJECTS
The research of the Alzheimer center VUmc has three main themes:
    1. Endophenotypes of dementia; early onset Alzheimer’s disease, other types of dementia, meaningful subtypes. Towards understanding heterogeneity.
    2. Early diagnosis; biomarkers for sensitive and specific diagnosis, recognize incipient Alzheimer’s disease (in mild cognitive impairment, subjective complaints). Discriminate different types of dementia. In addition; finding biomarkers for prognosis and to monitor disease progression.
    3. Vascular factors; dementia at old age is often caused by mixed pathology. This research line studies how vascular disease and neurodegenerative braing changes interact to cause dementia.
